Earthquake

  • The earthquake happened on April 18, 1906 along the San Andreas fault
  • It was devastating
  • It tore apart San Francisco for a total of 296 miles


Fire
  • The fire that began because of the earthquake was probably the most devastating part of the earthquake
  • The start of the earthquake destroyed the city's water mains making it nearly impossible for firefighters to combat the fire
  • So the fire persisted and lasted for around 3 days, consuming a lot of the city
  • It killed around 3,000 people
  • It also left around half of the city homeless

Aftermath
  • After the fire ended, San Francisco was devastated; however, the fire allowed the city to be rebuilt and be improved
  • The destruction of the city also allowed new towns to grow around the San Francisco bay
