What is Pandora?
Pandora
is a personalized internet radio. It
uses an automated music recommendation powered by Music Genome Project. The
custom songs for each station is based on ratings from users and similar
interests using “likes” and “dislike”. Pandora
is available on web browser, a downloaded software, and smart phones.

In 2015, company Rdio which was started by the founders of Skype went bankrupt and the assets were sold to Pandora for $75 million. As of 2016, Pandora had 78 million active users and made $17.6 billion in revenue.

Pandora's Business Model
Pandora
is a consumer-oriented music discovery service. Advertising
comprised of 80% of Pandora’s total revenue in 2013. Pandora
began as a subscription-only service only but then changed to an ad based
revenue with a premium service that gets rid of the ads available. Pandora
is working building a system-on-chip so that when electronic products are
bought, the Pandora application is built in.
