Earthquake
- The earthquake happened on April 18, 1906 along the San Andreas fault
- It was devastating
- It tore apart San Francisco for a total of 296 miles
Fire
- The fire that began because of the earthquake was probably the most devastating part of the earthquake
- The start of the earthquake destroyed the city's water mains making it nearly impossible for firefighters to combat the fire
- So the fire persisted and lasted for around 3 days, consuming a lot of the city
- It killed around 3,000 people
- It also left around half of the city homeless
Aftermath
- After the fire ended, San Francisco was devastated; however, the fire allowed the city to be rebuilt and be improved
- The destruction of the city also allowed new towns to grow around the San Francisco bay
